Story Submissions
If you are an immigrant in Canada, then The Canadian Immigrant Magazine wants to hear from you. Our aim is to "inform, educate and motivate," and we believe in learning from experience. If you have an interesting story to tell us or write yourself, we may want to pass it along to our readers.
The Canadian Immigrant Magazine writes feature profiles on immigrant success stories every issue, from entrepreneurs to professionals to public figures. We also profile immigrants from all walks of life in our Fusion section.
If you know someone who'd make a great profile or believe you are a candidate yourself, email Margaret Jetelina at .
We're always looking for ideas or submissions for our other departments as well, such as:
- "Immigrant Impressions" — first-person stories from immigrants (500 words maximum)
- "Art Review" — discusses immigrant-themed books, films, art and more.
- "Opposites Attract" — profiles of mixed-race couples
We're happy to review all article ideas, queries and submissions. All contributions are subject to editing. We also accept photography and illustration contributions. At this time, we do not pay contributors. Email Margaret Jetelina at .
Writers' Guidelines
The Canadian Immigrant Magazine's mission is to "inform, educate and motivate" Canadian immigrants, so editorial copy must fall within these broad ideals.
- Editorial copy must meet the highest journalistic standards and the mandate of objectivity and fairness. The writer must be aware of cultural sensitivities and shall not discriminate based on race, religion, gender, culture or sex.
- The Canadian Immigrant Magazine uses Canadian Press style as a guideline for written content. The Canadian Oxford Dictionary as well as the CP Stylebook and CP Caps and Spelling are our reference guides.
- Opinions and comment can be expressed in editorials, columns, letters and sections. Opinions and comment by the author, however, will be avoided in news copy and features.
- Contributors agree to give The Canadian Immigrant Magazine first North American serial rights as well as non-exclusive online publication rights for any submitted material. Copyright remains with the author.
- Payment for editorial content or expenses must be negotiated with the editor.
- Contributors are required to identify themselves and this publication in any dealings with the public, but only after the editor's approval.
- We reserve the right to edit any submitted materials for publication.
